Shanthi Empowerment Fund.

Shanthi Veeramachaneni was a beautiful and beloved member of our community, deeply passionate about TLC’s purpose to support the 1-in-20 individuals experiencing body-focused repetitive behaviors. Shanthi lived with OCD, depression, and hair pulling for nearly ten years, but she suffered the most from hair pulling. It had a significant impact on her ability to function and was a daily torment. After enduring years of suffering without effective treatment for OCD and hair pulling, she ended her pain. Shanthi’s mother, Geetha Nimmagadda, established the Shanthi Empowerment Fund to honor her daughter. The Shanthi Empowerment Fund provides ongoing funding for TLC’s health education and community programming, helping others experiencing BFRBs and their family members get connected to resources and support.

“Shanthi began her association to TLC with her first conference in 2016, which we attended together in Texas. It was here that I began to understand the complexity of this illness. She continued to attend conferences and made connections which were a source of critical support. I give to TLC to honor Shanthi’s memory because she was dedicated to the TLC community and felt that ‘they are all good people’ who are suffering and in need of healing like her. TLC is a place of sanctuary, that fosters connection, that provides a caring environment, that reduces suffering and promotes healing by building community.”
