Dr. Heather (Chik) Plinovich is a licensed clinical psychologist in Indiana and Illinois and is the founder and director of the Anxiety & OCD Behavioral Health Center (AOBHC) in Munster, Indiana. She leads a team of caring and insightful licensed clinical psychologists and counselors who specialize in the treatment of body focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) including trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder) and excoriation (skin picking) disorder for individuals of all ages. Dr. Plinovich and her treatment team are also leading providers of specialized treatment for anxiety, OCD, mood, trauma, behavioral, relationship, and related issues in the state of Indiana. They offer customized and highly effective psychological services for children, adults, parents, young adults, teens, couples, and families with problems that range from straightforward to severe and complex. Besides using Comprehensive Behavioral Therapy (ComB) and Habit Reversal Training (HRT) for BFRBs, Dr. Plinovich and her treatment team uses state-of-the art cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT); exposure therapy (exposure and response prevention; ERP); mindfulness, acceptance, and compassion-based interventions; trauma- informed care; and family/couples therapy. Besides office appointments, Dr. Plinovich and her treatment team can meet patients anywhere (e.g. at home, school, driving, salons) or online via HIPAA compliant videoconferencing (for exposure therapy or for those who live farther away) and for as frequently (i.e., multiple times a week) and as long as clinically indicated (e.g., longer than an hour) in order to maximize the patient's treatment outcome. We are conveniently located near extended stay hotels, stores, healthcare facilities, fitness studios, and restaurants for those who travel long distances to complete intensive treatment. These conveniences also allow us to provide excellent exposure therapy opportunities for our patients.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital Center for OCD and Related Disorders and an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. Alongside my work at MGH, I have a small private practice that specializes in providing evidence-based treatments for adults with body-focused repetitive behaviors (e.g., hair pulling, skin picking) as well as OCD, anxiety, and related disorders (e.g., body dysmorphic disorder, hoarding disorder). I have been treating body-focused repetitive behaviors since 2013, when I completed the Trichotillomania Learning Center’s Professional Training Institute and a year-long specialized practicum with expert supervision at the Behavior Therapy Institute of Greater Washington. I completed my training in 2016 at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. My approach to therapy is evidence-based, focused, and collaborative. If we work together, I will guide you through a treatment that’s individualized to meet your goals and symptoms, to help you refocus your time and energy back onto the things you care about most.  If you think I may be a good fit, please reach out (email: hweingardenphd@protonmail.com). If I’m accepting new clients I’ll suggest an initial, brief, no-cost call as a first step.
