Nicole Mayeda, Psy.D.
PTI/VPTI Certified

Telehealth Provider

I have held a private practice dedicated specifically to BFRB clients for the past ten years. Prior to that, I conducted research on hair pulling, skin picking, and nail biting patterns. I host individuals, couples, and groups for BFRB treatment and support, and offer consultations to other clinicians. I have psychodynamic, somatic, CBT, ACT, ERP, and IFS trainings that I draw from to help people finally feel more at peace with, more liberated from, and more in control of their pulling, picking, and biting behaviors. You can learn more about me and my therapeutic attitudes on my website or Instagram @bfrbtherapist.

As the founder and director of NYC Cognitive Therapy, a premier group practice in Manhattan, I lead a team of nine therapists specializing in evidence-based treatments for depression, anxiety disorders, and various psychological challenges for individuals, couples, and groups.

My journey in cognitive therapy began after earning a Master's degree in Social Work from New York University and undergoing intensive post-graduate training at the Beck Institute under the mentorship of Dr. Aaron T. Beck. With certifications in several therapeutic modalities, including the Gottman Method, Trial-Based Cognitive Therapy, CBT for Insomnia, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, DBT, and David Burns' TEAM-CBT, my areas of expertise encompass depression, social anxiety, hoarding, relationship distress, substance use, OCD, modifying core beliefs, and supervising therapists.

I am deeply committed to advancing the field of cognitive therapy through teaching and mentorship. As a faculty member at the Beck Institute I provide clinical supervision and consultation tailored to clinicians at all career stages. For over a decade, I have supervised interns in my group practice completing their field placements in graduate school from NYU, Columbia University, and many more.

Through workshops and training sessions in CBT and Trial-Based Cognitive Therapy (TBCT), I empower professionals to refine their clinical skills and optimize client outcomes. My multifaceted approach reflects a steadfast commitment to excellence in therapeutic practice and professional development.

Additionally, I am honored to serve on the credentialing committee for the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, where I evaluate work samples of therapists applying for certification. I am also proud to be recognized as the first Beck Institute Master Level Clinician.
